INGREDIENTS

100% ceremonial grade matcha from Uji, Kyoto, Japan

HOW TO USE

Store away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity. For long-term storage, refrigeration is recommended.

Shelf life: 6 months if unopened and refrigerated. After opening, it is recommended to drink up as soon as possible within 2-3 weeks.

1) Heat water in a kettle until you see steam rising; this temperature will be around 180°F, which is well below boiling. Turn off the heat.
2) Pour approximately ½ cup of the hot water into a matcha bowl to warm it up. Soak the tea whisk in the hot water to soften it, then discard the water and dry the bowl's interior.
3) Using a tea scoop, measure out 3 scoops (about 1 teaspoon) of sifted matcha powder and place it into the warmed bowl.
4) Add about ¼ cup (2 ounces) of hot water.
5) Utilize the tea whisk to blend the matcha powder with the water, starting with slow, back-and-forth motions, then whisk vigorously to create a frothy mixture.
6) Rinse the scoop and whisk.
7) Now, sip and savor your delicious matcha.

Why Lemon Laine Matcha?

From the moment I became pregnant with my first child, I developed a heightened sensitivity to coffee. My skin would break out and become redder, and I would experience jitters and increased anxiety. Coffee just wasn't suitable for me anymore, but I still craved that comforting 'warm hug' in a cup that a freshly brewed coffee provides—without the energy crashes and inflammation. That's when I discovered matcha.

Initially, my journey was challenging; many matchas I tried were either too bitter or too grassy. But as I dove deeper into the matcha universe, I discovered that it’s all about the environment in which it's grown, cultivated and prepared to keep that freshness intact. After sampling over 30 different kinds (yes, I went full matcha detective!), I encountered one that truly amazed me. It was the best cup of matcha I had ever tasted, and I knew I had to share it with you. I hope you enjoy Matcha Tasty as much as I do!

I am a total matcha snob & LL knocked it out of the park with this one. You can tell it’s well sourced and then some. This will be immediately replacing what I use at home.

Matcha F.A.Q.'s

If you can’t find your answer, we're here to help. Email us at hello@lemonlaine.com.

Why does some matcha taste bitter?

If your matcha tastes bitter, it may be an inferior grade of tea. Also, the water might be too hot, you may have used too much matcha, or you did not whisk it properly. If there are breaks in the froth that reveal the liquid underneath or big bubbles on the surface, the flavor profile will not be as good as it should be.

Why is matcha more costly compared to other green teas?

The higher quality the matcha, the higher the price. For example, ceremonial-grade matcha (like Matcha Tasty) is made from the highest quality leaves, which are only available during the first harvest of the tea plant.  Matcha is more expensive than other green teas because of its complex production process, which requires more labor and skill.

Growing: Matcha plants need to be grown in specific regions of Japan and shaded with a special netting to protect them from direct sunlight. The plants need to be constantly monitored and cared for during its shading period.
Harvesting: Matcha leaves are only hand-harvested once or twice a year, usually between May and June.
Preparing: After harvesting, the leaves are carefully de-stemmed and de-veined by hand.
Grinding: The leaves are then ground into a fine powder using granite stone wheels. It can take over an hour to produce 30 grams of matcha powder.
Quality control: Japan has strict quality control standards for matcha tea.
Labor costs: Japan has high labor costs.

Is matcha a good alternative to coffee?

Matcha can be a good alternative to coffee because it doesn't alter blood sugar and insulin levels, and it can help regulate appetite.

How do I make matcha froth?

If your matcha isn't frothing well, you might not be whisking it thoroughly enough or you might not be using enough matcha powder.

Is matcha safe for people with gluten or lactose intolerance?

Yes, matcha is gluten-free and suitable for people with celiac disease. It's also vegan and vegetarian.

Does matcha contain caffeine?

Yes, matcha contains caffeine, but it's less than coffee. A cup of matcha contains 25–35 mg of caffeine, while a cup of coffee contains 100–200 mg.

Is matcha safe to drink during pregnancy?

It's best to consult your doctor, but matcha is generally safe to drink during pregnancy if you limit your caffeine intake to 200 mg per day.

How many servings of matcha can I drink per day?

The average recommendation is 1–2 servings per day, but you can drink up to 5 bowls if you're looking to stay alert.
